The Thai government aims to increase the usage of electric vehicles up to 1.2 million units by the year 2036, according to the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT).
“Relevant agencies including the BOI and government agencies have created a number of incentives to stimulate the growth of electric vehicles as well as recruiting various investors and manufacturers to collaborate on EV projects,” said EVAT president Dr. Yossapong Laoonual at the recent “EV Tech Forum 2018”.
One of the automakers keen on EV technology is Nissan, which came and shared its roadmap for moving Thailand towards “a more electric, more connected and more autonomous future of mobility”.
Peter Galli, Nissan’s vice president for communications in Thailand, said that Nissan’s goal is to help move people to a better world through more electrification, more connectivity and more autonomy.
“For nearly 85 years, Nissan’s story has been a story of innovation to make peoples’ lives better. Today we are continuing that story through Nissan Intelligent Mobility, and especially through the all-new Nissan LEAF, which remains the best-selling electric vehicle in the world,” Galli said. “The all-new Nissan LEAF, which was unveiled in Thailand at the Motor Expo late last month, won’t just transform the way people drive. It will also transform the way they live,” he said.
Nissan Intelligent Mobility is Nissan’s roadmap for the technology and business evolution of the automotive industry, which is making customer lives better by redefining how cars are driven, powered and integrated into society.
Galli said the LEAF is an icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility and showcases Nissan’s advancements in the areas of Intelligent Power, Intelligent Driving, and Intelligent Integration. It has a driving range of more than 311kms according to the NEDC standard, and is over 60 per cent more efficient than the previous model per charge.
“Nissan believes an even more exciting future lies in front of us as we continue to embrace our goal of electrifying Thailand. That has already started through deals like our recent collaboration with Thailand’s Metropolitan Electricity Authority. This brings home charging options to ensure the proper infrastructure is in place for the all-new Nissan LEAF,” Galli said. “Deals like this help create a new way of thinking about transportation that will drive the electrification of Thailand.”
